Add some spice instead of salt

Do you need to reduce your salt intake? Try spices. Chinese researchers surveyed the diets of 606 people and found that those who ate more spices (especially chilli peppers) ate less salt and had lower blood pressure than people who preferred less spicy foods.

It all comes down to the brain. The researchers used imaging tests to study the areas of the brain that are known to be involved in taste perception. The images showed that part of the brain stimulated by ingesting spices overlaps with the part of the brain stimulated by eating salt.

Reducing your salt intake can reduce your risk of high blood pressure, which can lead to heart attack and/or stroke.
